    Any size domestic project undertaken

I HAVE WORKED IN THE DECORATING TRADE SINCE 1986 - I completed a 4 year apprenticeship with Verney Jones Painter & Decorator, Fleetwood, Lancashire. I also undertook 3 years training at Blackpool & Fylde College achieving my Advanced Craft City & Guilds qualification in painting and decorating and gained further work experience. I worked in the Blackpool NHS Estates Department for 13 years progressing to managing and supervising teams of painters and contractors. In 2007 I moved back to Shetland and have established my painting & decorating business.

  • Products used

I BELIEVE IN USING THE BEST AVAILABLE PRODUCTS WHICH RESULTS IN A HIGH QUALITY FINISH
I predominantly use water based paints for all my work unless otherwise specified. This is partly due to the low Volatile Organic Compounds (voc's) in that type of paint. VOC's can have long term health effects and the painting industry is constantly looking for solutions for these problems ie, improving the quality of water based paints. The paints I use deliver the best quality and finish which is one of the main aims of my work.

Sikkens is my favoured paint for interior woodwork as it produces a durable finish. Dulux and Crown are my choice of paints for general, interior work. I use the best quality brushes and rollers produced in America as they definitely have the cutting edge when it comes to quality and standard.

I use the Mirka Virtually Dust Free Sanding System in conjunction with Abranet abrasives. This system extracts the dust effectively leaving a virtually dust free room. These benefits are obvious, not only health wise but its also more efficient and reduces time spent cleaning. These days with paint formulations frequently changing there is more reliance on preparatory primers and sealers. I use Zinsser products for this problem solving as they are the best you can buy and do what they're designed to For exterior painting I believe that Jotun paints, closely followed by Valtti are the very best for this type of work. I have used many brands over the years and have found none as good as these.

  • What our customers say

When we wanted to have the exterior of Baila House repainted, including a complete colour change, we already knew the only person for the job was Fearghas Noblett. We had heard nothing but good things about his work and standards, so we invited him to come and look at the project. His careful assessment of the work was very considered, and he helped advise on possible types of paint and the colours and finishes that might work best. He organised the entire job, including the scaffolding, as well as all materials and worked quietly, quickly and very precisely on what was unquestionably a major undertaking. The work was completed under initial cost estimate, and on schedule, with a quality of finish that still astonishes people, even three years later. Fearghas is entirely trustworthy, honest, hard-working and a perfectionist in everything he does. He is tidy, polite, meticulous in avoiding mess, and we can recommend his work and his advice without hesitation - indeed we have used him since the house repaint for some internal work, and will certainly use him again when required.
    Graeme Storey (Lerwick)

My wife and I have used Fearghas over the past 5 years as our first choice painter and decorator. Amongst the jobs he has undertaken is taping, filling, papering and painting for 3 properties and also for our business. Apart from the impeccable standard of his work (I believe he is undoubtedly one of the best in Shetland) he leaves a very tidy job with no overspill or mess and very polite and is a pleasure to have in the house. Apart from his key skills he is also able to provide valued advice on colours and paint that will complement the job. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Fearghas.
    Michael Laurenson (Muckle Roe)

We are extremely satisfied with the very professional decoration of our house, that has also been much admired by visitors.
    Laurie and Fiona Sinclair (Lerwick)

Fearghas did a wonderful job during our major refurb. He never caused delays as he was right there as each stage was ready for him. An excellent, honest and tidy worker - just a pleasure to have in the home.
    Bobby & Alexis Tulloch (Lerwick)

We used Fearghas Noblett to repaint our house, we were very impressed with the job, how quick and neat it was. You hardly even knew he was here. Every surface was prepared properly and he did not leave it until he was satisfied it was done to a high standard. A great knowledge of what paint to use where, a true professional.
    Alasdair MacPherson (Brae)

Newly arrived in Shetland, I am so happy to have discovered Fearghas Noblett. He has painted both the inside and outside of my house. His work is finished to the very highest standard and Fearghas is a perfectionist as well as being trustworthy and reliable. He manages to work swiftly and with such quiet, accuracy that you are hardly aware that he is busy in your house. I would not hesitate to recommend him for any decorating project.
